Bordeaux mixture is a classic copper-based fungicide that has been used in gardens for over a hundred years. The kit contains copper sulphate and lime: the lime softens the effect of the copper, so the solution can be used even when the plant is already in leaf, whereas pure copper sulphate would scorch the foliage at that stage.
Bordeaux mixture is used against scab, late blight, brown rot, leaf curl and leaf blackening on fruit trees, berry bushes, grapevines and vegetables. The solution stays on the leaves as a bluish film and protects them until the next heavy rain.
The pack contains 200 g. Caution: wear protective gloves and follow the instructions on the pack.

Advice from our agronomist
Mix just before use. Made-up Bordeaux mixture does not keep: within a couple of hours it settles out and blocks the sprayer.
Check the reaction. A correctly mixed solution is neutral or slightly alkaline. An acid one scorches leaves — test with litmus paper and add lime if needed.
Spray before the disease, not after. Copper is protective, not curative: it stops spores germinating. It will not restore a leaf that is already infected.
