Advice from our agronomist
Planting Plant in a sunny or semi-shaded spot in fertile, moisture-retentive, slightly acidic soil; dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball, mix in compost and peat and set the plant at the same depth as in the pot.
Watering Water regularly and generously, especially in the first two years and in drought; the soil must neither dry out nor stay waterlogged. Mulch the root zone with a 5–7 cm layer of bark or pine needles.
Pruning Prune in early spring before bud break: shorten last year’s shoots to 2–3 buds and remove weak and inward-growing branches. Flowers form on new growth, so hard pruning does not harm flowering.
Feeding and winter care Feed in spring with a hydrangea fertiliser and again in early summer; do not feed after July. Flowers in July–October; height 100–150 cm. The plant is fully hardy – no special protection is needed; a mulch layer is enough for a young plant in its first winter.
